New list?

I'm probably going to restart my list. I'm not making the progress I should be, partly because I've got a crazy puppy to take care of this week, and partly because a lot of my goals are either money or time intensive, and if I did the math I'd almost certainly find that I can't afford them or don't have enough time for them.

The kongregate goal is literally impossible for me at the moment, as one of the badges requires me to press three keys at once, and my computer will only read two. My weight loss goals aren't coming along because I haven't changed my diet, and have no incentive to on my list.

While I do want to accomplish most of the goals on the list, particularly the ones involving finishing projects that I started years ago, I don't feel especially passionate about the list as a whole. And then there's the fact that Adam may not even be staying in Virginia, which renders all of the Virginia goals moot.

I don't know. I want to start over, really. But I also feel like I ought to just plug away at this one for a while longer until life settles a tiny bit. Say, until I find a job or Adam makes a decision. I think that's probably what I'll do, while starting to make a new list that I can start on at some point in the near future. Maybe my birthday. Maybe later. Heck, maybe not until Christmas.

...Wow. I feel better already.

Month 1 update

Not much going on this month, really. That's mostly because I've been busy finishing things up for graduation, and then I can't really do the wedding stuff until I get home. Basically it means I've only finished one goal, with 3-4 in progress.

101 in 1001

So, like most people, I make a lot of New Year's resolutions that I don't keep. I make a lot of resolutions at other times in the year too, and I don't tend to keep those either. I like to take on challenges that I forget about (remember the post(s) about reading 50 books?). I probably did read 50 books that year, but stopped keeping track around halfway through. I have countless fanfiction challenges left uncompleted. In short, I don't finish things.

And now I'm back with another challenge I'm probably going to post about once or twice and not post about ever again. Sorry. But hey, I'm trying, right?

This time it's the 101 in 1001 challenge. It's like a New Year's resolution, only you make 101 of them. And instead of having a year to slack off and forget and then come back to it in December, you get 1001 days (about 2.75 years) to try and remember.

I'm going to keep some of them. I have to. I'm graduating in May; I'm getting married in a little over a year. Those are two of my goals, and a lot of wedding related stuff is on my list (mostly because that's what I'm going to be spending a lot of time doing/thinking about over the next year).

On the other hand, I've got a lot of goals that probably won't get done, but I hope I put in a good effort. I worked it out so that my end date was December 31, 2012. This means I'm not officially starting this until April 4. But I finished my list tonight, and I'm posting it now, so that I can look at it and remind myself. A lot.

Writer's Block: Year of the Ox

Happy Chinese New Year! The Year of the Ox starts today. What is your Chinese zodiac animal? Do you think you fit the description of the sign?

Well, apparently I'm a Fire Rabbit, which sounds awesome, but completely doesn't describe me. This is what I found online about Fire Rabbits:

The Fire Rabbits stand out from the crowd of other Rabbits. You might expect Rabbits to be passive, quiet, and loners. Not so, the Fire Rabbits. These extroverts are leaders of the pack! Fire Rabbits intuitively sense the right way to bring out the best in themselves and other people. They are brave creatures, thirsty for life. Others eagerly follow them because of the promise of adventure and great fun, and they are never disappointed. Visionary explorers, Fire Rabbits inspire others to see beyond the surface. Unlike other Rabbits, Fire Rabbits have the potential to be truly rich. Enormously capable and hardworking, Fire Rabbits can achieve great things others cannot match. Captains in charge of their lives, they experience smooth sailing in their careers. The multifaceted Fire Rabbits experience great versatility in their lives. Their interests can range from Agatha Christie to bungee jumping, from caviar to enchiladas, from snowskiing to Scrabble. Speaking of Scrabble, spell Love: L-O-V-E is very kind to Fire Rabbits. Excellent lovers, they rapturously charm their partners with cozy fireplaces, affectionate hugs, and, most of all, undying support and loyalty.

I'm absolutely an introvert, pretty passive, tending toward the quiet side, and definitely a loner. I'm not sure about the brave part, since I've not had to test it yet, though I very much want to be brave. On the other hand, the bit at the end about interests and undying loyalty are fairly accurate. Actually, if the epiphany I had last week is any indication, the ideal Fire Rabbit is exactly what I want to be, if not what I am. Hmm. Something for me to think about.

Polyphasic sleeping day 1

Today was...interesting, I suppose. I fell asleep from 5-8 AM, which I suppose is good, considering I pretty much didn't fall asleep during any of my naps today. I seem to be unable to sleep on a schedule, at least so far. I'm honestly not sure I'm going to continue this experiment, since I've already got a really bad headache from the lack of sleep. And then there is the fact that nighttime is a heck of a lot longer than I thought it would be.

I've stayed up until 4 in the morning before, so I didn't think it would be a big deal. But when you're really tired and completely alone, there's not much incentive to stay awake. That's the main reason I've fallen off the horse already. If I weren't completely alone in this, I'd probably try harder to keep it up, and just suck it up in terms of the headaches. But I'm getting caught up on my work already, and doing homework late at night didn't work so well anyway, so that incentive is gone(ish). I can't say I'd never try it again, but I'd make sure I talked someone into staying up all night with me first. I'd also see if I could manage a better headache prevention regime before trying this again, since I'd rather not have a headache in addition to being exhausted and lonely.

During the day, polyphasic sleeping sounds and feels pretty easy. But as night draws closer and closer, I don't even want to think about trying to stay awake. I just want to curl up under my covers and wake up to discover that it's morning. I wish I could stick with it long enough to garner some of the supposed benefits, such as more vivid dreams or an easier, freer access to the creative subconscious (not to mention all those extra hours), but right now the benefits just don't seem to be worth the pain of getting through the adaptation period. Maybe someday.

Polyphasic sleeping Day 1 (ish)

So I'm trying out polyphasic sleeping, where I sleep for 20 minutes 6 times a day. I'm trying it mostly out of curiosity, but also partly from a desire to have more time.

It's only 1 AM, but I'm already pretty tired. I haven't slept at all during my nap times yet, but hopefully that'll change with the 4 AM nap. I'm also hoping I'll be able to drag myself out of bed afterward. Expect more updates later today.

Getting Things Done

So, I'm a rather...disorganized person. I can be extremely scatterbrained, and deadlines and I don't get along too well. I'm also a procrastinator of epic proportions, or at least, I can be. There are a lot of things in my life that I'd like to see change, but my lack of productivity is one of the biggest.

In an effort to change, I've borrowed the book Getting Things Done by David Allen from the library. I've only done the first step of implementing his system: collecting all of my "open loops", but I'm already feeling a little bit more in control. Not a lot, because my brain apparently doesn't trust me to actually stick with my new system yet, but I think it'll get there. I'm pretty sure there are some open loops I'm still missing, but those will come up eventually.

All in all, it seems like it could be a really great system, and if I actually stick with it, I may be able to beat the evil procrastination bug once and for all. Well, more or less, at least. :)

So I'm here, which is totally awesome. My room is still something of a disaster, but everything is out of the boxes, which is an improvement over where I was this morning. Of course, now that I'm here, I don't want school to start at all. I would be perfectly content to just sit with friends all day, every day. Well, for now, anyway. In a week or two I'm sure I'll be eager to see something other than this incredibly gorgeous apartment.

The joys of packing

It's a perfect day outside, and I'm leaving for Oxford tomorrow. These are two very wonderful things, so I should be really happy. But for the life of me I can't get myself moving enough to pack much of anything. I still need to pack my clothes, my books, toiletries, and random school supply stuff. And I don't want to. At all. Ugh.
